Americans have been spending much more time at home this year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. As a result, homeowners have been rethinking many aspects of their homes, leading to a surge in home renovations. In fact, a study conducted by Houzz highlighted that 79% of homeowners were considering starting renovations that would help them enjoy their homes more. While COVID-19 certainly hasn’t stopped the home renovation industry, it has changed some of the processes. Following are some aspects to consider as you embark on a home renovation:
Remote planning meetings – Normally, home renovations would require several in-person meetings to gather the scope of the project, look at product samples and more. However, in the age of social distancing, contractors are doing many of these things remotely. Expect virtual meetings as well as 3-D renderings of the project.
Timelines are increasing – Due to the high demand, home renovations are being scheduled weeks and even months in the future. Additionally, contractors are impacted by local COVID-19 restrictions, such as caps on the number of workers per site, which can further delay projects.
Supply chains are affected – The production of many materials used in home renovations has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Lumber shortages have been reported across the country, causing many projects to stall while waiting for supplies.
